Program Chairman, Sherman Wildman, interviewed our own Living Legend, Charles M. Hitt. We were reminded of his many life achievements, service to the community, great tennis competitor and man of good humor and good cheer. Chuck grew up in the Chicago area, attended the U of New Mexico, and eventually went to work for Pan American Airlines. It was Pan Am that brought him to Puerto Rico. Leaving Pan Am, Chuck went into the construction world, developing housing in the metro area as a Partner in Empresas Hitt & Zalduondo. Starting as a child, he learned to play tennis from his sister. He competed nationally making the quarterfinals in the Junior 18's. He was a founding member of the Puerto Rico Lawn Tennis Association. Chuck is a testament of tennis as a Sport for a Lifetime, having competed in the 1999 USTA Southern Championships (80 years and over) winning the singles and the doubles championships. Two of his passions over the years have been the Union Church and San Juan Rotary. When asked for his favorite saying, Chuck quoted Jackson Brown , "Live so that when your children think of fairness and integrity, they think of you." |
