Today at our meeting we asked members to sign up for the Ponce Gala and also the International Convention in Atlanta. It's time to make reservations!

Ponce Gala

For the Ponce Gala on February 4, 2017 please make your hotel reservation NOW because the rooms will fill up at the Ponce Hilton. The District 7000 Conference February 3-5 will coincide with the Gala and more details will come for signing up for those activities. For now, it's important to make your hotel reservation:

I know from experience that the early bird gets the worm for the convention. Hotels and airplanes fill up, and activities get sold out quickly. Don't be left behind.

Both of these events are very important for our 100th Anniversary plans. Yes we want to make a good showing, but even more important is to experience the power of Rotary firsthand with people from around the world.

CLASSIFICATION TALKS

Chairman, Alan Austen, was the first Rotarian to give his Talk this Rotary Year. He is presently the Head of School for Commonwealth-Parkville. Japan, Korea, Frankfurt and Milan are some of his previous educational experiences. Alan strongly stressed the importance of education for the salvation of a society, including our island. He will be calling upon fellow-Rotarians to give their five minute Talk, as it is a great way to get to know each other.

Will be held November 16 9am at Parque Barbosa. We are sponsoring turkeys to give away to the winners. All are welcome to this event.School kids from grades 6-9 will have a field day!

We heard from Past President Ray Erb as well as visiting Rotarian Heather Beebe from Utica, NY, who enlightened us on the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. Heather spent a year as a teenager in Brazil. She called in a life changing experience. Ray is our District Director in charge of Youth Activities, including Interact and Rotaract.

Ismael Velez is a former Rotaractor and currently CPA and Lawyer with Price Waterhouse Cooper. He spoke about his history with Rotary, and how he intends to join our club. Welcome Ismael!

PONCE IN FEBRUARY & ATLANTA IN JUNE

In order to get an idea of the interest in these two upcoming activities, there will be a sign up sheet at the luncheons. Rotary International President, John Germ, will be the honored speaker at the February 4th Ponce Rotary Club meeting. The February 4th activity will take the place of our regular Tuesday meeting.

Car pooling is suggested.

Atlanta, Georgia, is the site of the 2017 Rotary International Convention. You don't have to go as far as Seoul, Korea (as President Jennifer did) to see the gathering of your fellow Rotarians from all over the world.
