This past week our club celebrated the 30th anniversary of hosting a Thanksgiving Day lunch in conjunction with the Boy's and Girl's clubs of Puerto Rico. Over 500 young people enjoyed lunch and entertainment at La Concha Hotel, which also made a very generous donation to support the event. I would like to thank the many Rotarians who attended the event to serve lunch to all of those who attended. A special thanks to Rotarian Edwin Aquino who organized this very special event, and also handled the publicity recognizing the Rotary Club of San Juan for its continued support for the past 30 years of this very special lunch. Congratulations to all who provided financial support of this event, as well to those who gave their time during Thanksgiving morning to participate.
NOMINATIONS from the floor for Officers and Directors for Rotary Year 2018-19 will be held next week, December 5. Please be sure your candidate is willing to serve, if elected, and is in good standing with the Club.
Elections will be held at the December 12 meeting with the slate as printed in the November 28 e-Garita and nominations from the floor, if any.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR ELECT, Juanita Morris, received her lapel pin from 2017-18 DG Jose Lucas Rodriguez. Past President Juanita will serve as DG in 2018-19.
The San Juan Rotary Board of Directors met with District Governor Jose Lucas Rodriguez on his Official Visit to the Club. Our Board presented its Plans and Objectives for this Rotary Year. Due to an interruption called "Hurricane Maria", the September meeting had a bit of a delay.
Our guest speaker was District Governor Jose Lucas Rodriguez who was making his Official Visit to San Juan Rotary. After a working Board of Directors meeting, DG Jose Lucas brought us up-do-date on the many activities of District 7000. Needless to say, the aftermath of Hurricanes Maria and Irma created a tremendous effort on the part of Rotarians to give "Service Above Self". Governor Jose Lucas was pleased with the generous cooperation of our and other island clubs. Jose Lucas, holder of a PhD in Business Administration, is a member of the RC of Yauco. He has been associated with the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico since 1991 and is a professor and coordinator of the Communications Dept. Father of three girls and one granddaughter, Jose Lucas received San Juan Rotary's check for Hurricane Relief in the amount of $3800 contributed by Rotarians and a check to The Rotary Foundation to apply to his Paul Harris Fund.
