Dear Rotarians, On Tuesday we will meet at Plaza del Mercado in Rio Piedras. Plaza administration will receive us and give us an update on new developments to take place in this important commercial space in the heart of Rio Piedras. We will also learn about the veteran’s office in this location where fellow Rotarian Jose I. Rivera gives service to this community. He will be our host in this occasion and has put together a very interesting program. Lunch will be served and Jose requests that we be there at 11:30 AM. There is an underground parking and the entrance is on De Diego street. A pin to Plaza is included in this message. Come an visualize a future revival of what once used to be the business center of San Juan. And while there you might do some grocery shopping taking home some fresh produce grown in Puerto Rico! Yours in Rotary, Juanita
Julian Herencia, Executive Director of the Renewable Energy Producers, addressed myths about renewable energy: it is the cheapest energy source after coal, won't face future price hikes like fossil fuels, and can coexist with agriculture. However, he argued that 100% renewable energy by 2050 is unrealistic for Puerto Rico, as 15-20% fossil fuel use will still be needed.
He believes eliminating intermediate goals toward achieving 85% renewable energy by 2050 is a mistake.
