COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

Rotarian Julian Rodriguez Sacristan received San Juan Rotary's Community Service
Project Award $2,500 check for the Fundacion Modesto Gotay, a resident home for people with disabilities who need constant care in an effort to improve their ability to live more independently.  The award is for two 50" TV's with DVD player, one for the men and one for the women.
UPDATE ON COMMUNITY HEALTH

Fellow Rotarian and Head of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) Dr. Stephen Waterman, spoke about the effects on public health during the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.  A sharp increase in mosquito borne infections can be mitigated by control of their breeding areas.  River and stream water is absolutely NOT for drinking to avoid water borne diseases.  Increased attention to everyday good hygiene practices such as frequent hand washing is a must.  The Center is investigating the cases of suspected rare diseases.
LAST WEEK
President Ken McGrath has been receiving many, many calls and emails from Rotary Clubs throughout the U.S. and around the world offering their help for our beleaguered island.  Ken and a Committee of Rotarians are actively engaged in planning the distribution of the contributions.  Fellow members, interested in helping on the Committee, please contact Ken at either: mcgrath1128@aol.com  OR 787-464-4848.
PUBLIC RELATIONS

Edwin Aquino, Club Public Relations Director, has many duties, including keeping our Facebook page relevant.  Aware that some of his fellow-Rotarians are receiving offers and requests for help in these troubled days, Edwin suggests that you forward any information so received to him at either: 787-508-9998 OR eaquino@andersonresearchpr.com, for follow up.
........................................................................................................................................
ROTARIAN Georganna Hildebrant, a Dorado resident, has formed a group to help  in the recovery of our island.  Two of her group were her guests at Tuesday's meeting and got a first-hand look at our Club's awareness and efforts post Maria.
