2017-2018 President Kenneth McGrath will be presiding as San Juan Rotary celebrates it's 100th year. Founded on June 1, 1918, our sponsor was the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. We will be exploring our rich heritage spanning the last 100 years to become the oldest continuously operating Rotary Club in the world, south of the Tropic of Cancer. Recently back from attending the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, where there were 35,000 Rotarians from clubs all around the world, President Ken gave an overview of the activities, including a most inspirational speech by Andrew Young, U.S. past ambassador to the United Nations, Mayor of Atlanta, and one of the organizers of the 1966 summer Olympics. The next speaker, Bill Gates, has donated millions of dollars to fight polio and he pledged another $450 million as part of the final effort to eradicate this disease from the earth. President Ken had a conversation with Rotary International President-Elect, Sam Owori, from Uganda, who has decided to come to Puerto Rico to join us in celebrating our 100th Anniversary, the weekend of August 4, 2018. Be sure to put that date on your calendar. At that time, our District 7000 Governor, will be our own Juanita Morris. The 2017-18 Board of Directors received a round of applause as they, together with your support, are on their way to making our 100th Anniversary year, one to remember! |
