Last Friday all seven of the Area 1 Clubs of District 7000 combined to support the Llorens Torres Turkey Races at Parque Barbosa in Ocean Park.
It is the first time ever that all Area 1 Clubs joined forces in a community service project. As president of our club, I hope to see more of this kind of collaboration. The Area 1 clubs are San Juan, Rio Piedras, Monacillos, e-Club of Puerto Rico, Santurce, Carolina and Guaynabo. Thank you to all!!!
Also attending was Sylvia Maisonet our District 7000 Governor, who praised the activity and saw that the kids were having a great time.
We hope to make it a tradition, so next year we will be raising money for this same event that will benefit more and more families as each year goes by.
We raised a total of $2,000 and gave away 184 turkeys to local families. A total of six local schools received turkeys, and they all expressed thanks for our efforts.
Many thanks to our own Angela Schlump, who was the leader of getting the schools organized and appealing to Costco for the final "deal" where the turkeys were purchased. She worked hard to get as many turkeys as we could.
The following candidate has been approved for membership by the Board of Directors: HEIKO FAASS(Business Service: Investment Banking) CEO of Ferrer Faass & Co., LLC.. A former member of San Juan Rotary (2007-08), his sponsor is Telesforo Fernandez.
Any objections must be sent to the Secretary and received no later than December 3, 2016.
Held this year on Friday, November181when 184 turkeys were awardedto young (6-7-8 graders) winners from the metro public schools. Thanks go to organizer Rotarian Angela Schlump who also did the negotiating with turkey supplier, Costco. Monies for the turkeys were raised among San Juan Rotarians as well as the Rotary Clubs in our Zone, and the Darjo Foundation. Those who attended witnessed the enthusiasm of the students.
A meeting of the Chilis & Sancocho Cookoff Committee will meet next Tuesday, December 13, at 11:00 am in the AFDA Club. Chair Director José M.(Pepito) Rivero and President Jennifer Bates hopes to see all the committee members.
$735 was raised at last week's meeting, to bolster our Club's efforts to make San Juan Rotary a 100% Paul Harris Club this year. President Jennifer thanks those Rotarians who recognize the efforts of their Board to achieve this once-in-a-lifetime goal.
