Our speaker Tuesday was Tere Beard, the Executive Director del Hogar Buen Pastor, Inc. (“the Hogar”), one of the three recipients of the funds raised at the St. Patrick’s Celebration For a Cause which they used to undertake the urgent repair of their truck. The Hogar helps homeless men and women with addiction problems for a maximum period of two years during which time they not only address their addiction problems, but learn to be punctual and disciplined while they work in the embroidery, car wash, two book stores and two retails stores in which they sell donated clothes, furniture, decorative items, etc., in order to raise funds for the operation of the Hogar.  Tere gave two examples of clients who became a social worker and a nurse and return daily or weekly to do volunteer work at the Hogar. We will be organizing in the near future a visit to the Hogar in order to better understand its operations and to see how Rotary can help this very worthy cause.
