Our Tuesday speaker, Jorge Luis Rodriguez, founder and president of the think tank, Instituto de la Libre Economía, presented convincing data on how an overregulated market economy such as we experience in Puerto Rico does not permit its citizens to flourish and how Puerto Rico is last as compared to the other 50 states and fares very badly worldwide. ILE’s position is that we need to change our mindset with respect to the Government’s role that should focus on critical institutional areas such as education, health, and infrastructure. He covered the topic in the allotted time, but no one left after the formal closing of our meeting at 1:30 for the question-and-answer period that lasted almost a half hour.
