We had a really wonderful open House on Tuesday. I want to thank Ray Erb and Karol Oviedo for a job well done.
Now that we have had excellent guests present at one of our meetings and they have gotten an idea of what Rotary has to offer, it is up to all of us to follow up with our invitees and convince them that Rotary is right for them. We have had a great first step. The task now is to close.
Please do your part to get our membership back up to the hundred that Ray mentioned in his opening remarks.
PP Raymond Erb, put together a comprehensive program to accompany the Open House Meeting when Rotarians were encouraged to invite prospective members and friends to hear of the community and world changing activities sponsored by San Juan Rotary, our District 7000 and Rotary International. Rotarian Karol Oviedo chaired the meeting and introduced the members who head working committees that provide support for worthy projects. Speaking on behalf of Peace and Conflict, Armand Pique, told of the school in Yabucoa where students, school, and the community work together to promote help and cooperation. PP & Past District Governor, Juanita Valentin Morris, talked on how Rotary develops leadership and aids other organizations, as well. An example was the devastation of the San Juan YWCA when help came from clubs in the U.S. and Canada. Rotary will always inspire social service. Vice President, James Kennedy, elaborated on the SEEDS Program which gives the young opportunities to grow into role models.
On the International level, Director Georganna Hildebrand, gave an overview of the many projects The Rotary Foundation supports with its grants for water purity, sanitation, the environment, and conflict resolution. Rotarians' contributions to the Paul Harris Fund are well spent by Rotary International. PP Gerry Cumpiano, turned to our local initiative, the Thanksgiving Event, celebrating 33 years of providing a music and food treat at a major hotel for underprivileged children. (In this Covid year, meals were sent to the homes for the families of the children.). On another project, PP Ray Erb described what RYLA means-a camp for leadership training in Guajataca. Another program for the youngsters. There is also Rotaract and Interact, college and high school Rotary inspired clubs.
A most informative program for prospective members and a review for club members as well. Thanks to Ray Erb for this reminder of what Rotary means in the world.
