Honoring Women Making a Difference in Our Community

Celebrating Women’s Contributions to Our Community

AAUW Puerto Rico Award Luncheon Hosted by Rotary Club of San Juan

At our most recent meeting, the Rotary Club of San Juan had the privilege of hosting the AAUW Puerto Rico Award Luncheon. This special event was dedicated to recognizing two outstanding women whose dedication and work are making a significant difference in our community. We were honored to welcome Pearl Zecamira, president of AAUW Puerto Rico, along with many other guests who joined us in celebrating these achievements.

Spotlight on Award Recipients

This year, the AAUW Puerto Rico Awards were presented to Elithet Silva, representing Siempre Vivas, and Verónica Colón from Fundación Mujeres. Dr. Silva, a professor at the University of Puerto Rico, spoke about her academic research and the vital support her organization provides to victims and survivors of violence. Her insights highlighted the ongoing efforts to promote safety and empowerment for those affected. Verónica Colón shared her commitment to fundraising and building support for organizations that aid women impacted by domestic violence. She emphasized the importance of continuous community involvement and resources in sustaining these initiatives.

Distinguished Guests and Community Spirit

The luncheon was attended by a large and enthusiastic group, including several distinguished guests. Among them were Rotarians Héctor Sánchez and Yvonne Fernández, Yolanda de da Silveira (Honorary Consul of Portugal), and Dayanira Camacho (Global Grant recipient in Chile). Their presence contributed to an atmosphere of collaboration and shared dedication to service, embodying the values of Rotary.
