NEXT WEEK:
San Juan Rotary will hold an OPEN HOUSE MEETING ON ZOOM with Past President Raymond Erb presiding.
The meeting will be dedicated to showcasing San Juan Rotary Club projects. Zoom in to learn why our Club is the best networking and community service organization in town.
This Tuesday September 28 we will have an open house for our members and their guests. We urge our members to participate and invite friends that may be interested in learning more about our Rotary Club of San Juan.
We will also take this opportunity to induct two new members, Angelika Ilina and Joel Sanders.
Get up to date on what our club is doing and share with us a few moments.
I will continue to contact as many members as I can but please feel free to call me, send me a message or an email with your comments. My phone is 787-649-9426 and my email is ajcolorado@msn.com.
Was held in memory of Rotarian Ralph Bixler who passed away on September 21. Ralph was a 45-year member of San Juan Rotary, a well-known insurance executive, and always ready to help with Club activities. The Club extends its condolences to his widow, Eileen, and his children, one of whom, Philip Bixler, is also a member of our club.
Guest Speaker, Ms. Thrity Vakil, President of Tropic Ventures Research & Education Foundation at Las Casas de la Selva, a 1000-acre Sustainable Forestry & Rainforest Enrichment Project in Southeast Puerto Rico. It has worked on tree planting, tree-id, selective harvesting, milling, and wood-drying operations for two decades, and has led sixty Earth Watch research teams into the forest, observing, measuring, monitoring, and planting, hundreds of trees. Our speaker directs endangered species conservation & recovery within the Tropic Ventures Forest & propagates trees. Thrity, of Iranian heritage and a native of Kenya, Africa, received her higher education in England. In February of this year, she won an innovation award from Yale University's International Society of Tropical Foresters. Needless to say, her talk generated many participants in the Q&A period. She was introduced by fellow-Rotarian, James Kennedy.
