Last Tuesday we were able to help fund two important projects. The first one has the objective of eradicating mosquitos from the island of Culebra. And the second one continues to repair homes that were partially destroyed by hurricane Maria.
This next Tuesday 27 we will not hold our club’s meeting because it is a local holiday. We will be celebrating Jose Celso Barbosa’s birth.
Please remember that my phone is 787-649-9426 and my email is ajcolorado@msn.com. I will be very grateful for any ideas or comments you may have.
I ask of you to be very careful with keeping your distance and wearing your masks, when necessary. Covid cases continue to increase. We want you healthy.
At the July 20 AFDA meeting, Dr. Grayson C. Brown, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Vector Control of the CDC, was presented with a Global Grant 1st Disbursement check of $25,000 for the Culebra Mosquito Project by President Antonio Colorado.
Guest speaker, Edgardo Maldonado, Executive Director of SBP PR, a non-profit that was originally formed to help people in distress after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, has been active in many places in the United States following major catastrophes. Immediately following the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria, SBP was present to aid in the reconstruction of Puerto Rico. The organization is dedicated to the repair of homes and property for those who have no other form of relief. Since much of the work performed by SBP PR is done by volunteers, the organization is able to provide first rate work at reduced costs. To date, they have repaired 160 homes in Puerto Rico that were severely damaged by Hurricane Maria.
As Executive Director, Edgardo overseas SBP's Puerto Rico operations since 2019. Before joining the SBP team, he worked as a Licensed Architect and Project Manager for private industry. Holder of a master’s degree in Architecture from UPR, born and raised in Puerto Rico, he is committed to keep working for the well-being of his island. San Juan Rotary President Antonio Colorado presented Edgardo with a $2,000 check on behalf of the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club Charitable Foundation in California, thanks to the efforts of our Vice President, James Kennedy.
