President José M. (Pepito) Rivero-Olmedo-Message
Our District Conference is around the corner:  April 26-28, 2019.  Please register on line:  www.distritorotario7000.org We are just one month away of this important conference. Great events are waiting for you at the Sheraton Old San Juan.  Let’s accompany our District Governor, Juanita Valentín-Morris, in this journey.

The basis of good health is access to clean, safe, drinking water.  For most of the world clean water is medicine.  Rotary Clubs of all sizes can get involved in a water project, but developing a project takes planning.  By uniting several clubs together and/or partnering with a reputable organization, a single Rotary Club can make a bigger impact.  When getting involved look for projects that are sustainable.  The most important thing to remember is that the project does not belong to the Rotary Club or District, it belongs to the people it serves.

The lack of access to clean water, sanitation facilities and hygiene resources is one of the world’s biggest health problems and one of the hardest to solve.  Rotary has worked for decades to provide people with clean water by digging wells, laying pipes, sinks and toilets.  But the biggest challenge has come after the hardware is installed. Too often projects succeeded first, but eventually failed.  That’s one factor why Rotary has shifted its focus over the past several years to emphasize education to the community, collaboration and sustainability.  Community engagement is crucial to making long-term change.  This is key to any project.
Regards,

Pepito
