This November 19 we celebrated the day in history when our island was discovered by Christopher Columbus 225 years ago on his second voyage to the Americas. We have walked and improved a lot and we are proud of our roots and our history.
Thanksgiving Day, Nov 22, is a national holiday celebrated on various dates: in Canada during the month of October; in the United States and Puerto Rico, the third Thursday of November; Liberia, Nov 1st; and in some of the Caribbean Islands. This celebration began as a day of giving thanks for the blessings of the harvest and of preceding year. Thanksgiving is all about expressing gratitude.
Here in our club we express our gratitude to the community all year long by developing projects that improve other people’s lives. Also, this Thursday, Nov 22nd, we sponsor the 31st Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon Celebration at La Concha Resort & Casino, beginning at 9AM until 1:00 PM, for needy children and youth; this is a joint celebration with the Girls & Boys Clubs of Puerto Rico.

Visiting Rotarian JAMES KENNEDY from the Rotary Club of Manhattan Beach, California. James is on the island consulting with respect to water and solar solutions.
San Juan Rotarians enjoyed a Fellowship Meeting accompanied with a Turkey Lunch with a few local trimmings. We heard an inspiring message from our Invocator, Warwick Butler. Dr. Julio Soto spoke on the tremendous damaging effects of Hurricane Maria and Irma to Culebra. Then, President Elect, Gerry Cumpiano, told of how his opinion of Rotary has evolved seeing the results of the "Service Above Self" motto as more than words. The overwhelming response of Rotarians in the United States and other countries in the wake of Maria, was awe inspiring. Gerry asked that we spread the word of the positive impact of Rotary in the world.
