During the 100th Birthday celebration of our Club we will be honored by the visit of the Rotary International President, Barry Rassin with his wife Esther. On Saturday, August 4, 2018, starting at 6:00 PM, we will have a gala dinner at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino of the convention district. We will have recognitions and some surprises. I understand that we have been living the Rotary International motto, “Be the Inspiration”since the first meeting back in 1918. We have hundreds of reasons to celebrate. Let’s show the Rotary International President and all the distinguished visitors how proud and inspired we are.
SAN JUAN ROTARY'S HURRICANE RELIEF FUND presented Pisadas de Amor with an $11,000 check. Located in Manatí, Pisadas is a non-profit organization that has been helping the elderly for the past five years - focusing on creating safe and secure housing It is a VALOR authorized entity. THE CONGRESS OF LEADERS OF PUERTO RICO's mission is to identify and train potential leaders of our community. The non-profit organization counts over 35,000 alumni considered as the most talented of our young people. Invited as guest speaker at their 30th Anniversary meeting was San Juan Rotary President, Jose (Pepito) Rivero, who was honored with a commemorative scroll.
Attorney Agustin Montanez-Allman, Advocate for Puerto Rico Veterans, has a lengthy career in voluntary and public service since his early days as an Eagle Scout. Born in San Juan, he grew up in Arecibo and earned a BA in Political Science from Ohio University. As a 2nd Lt. in the US Army, he was ordered to active duty in Operations Dessert Shield & Dessert Storm. Holder of a Bronze Star, he earned his law degree from Inter-American U. With 87,000 Puerto Rico veterans, our speaker has regained certification for the Home for Retired Veterans, undertook a dormant project to build a new State Cemetery in Aguadilla, which was inaugurated in 2014, and is currently reorganizing to transform the local office into a proactive service-oriented organization, engaging in partnerships across State lines. Defending the rights, not only of all US veterans in Puerto Rico, but also of all military personnel (Army Reserve, Marines, Navy and National Guard, serving in Puerto Rico, is one of his major goals. A Rotarian in the Arecibo Club, his wife, Mercedes, is Club President and on her way to District Governor in 2020-21.
