Our guest speaker was Jose Enrique Fernandez, creator of the Kinesis Foundation, whose mission is to ensure a higher education for Puerto Rican students to transform the future of Puerto Rico. A non-profit public education foundation that believes every student has the right to receive an equal and quality education by overcoming socioeconomic barriers to achieve excellence at the highest academic levels. Fifty-four students from the Class of 2019 are attending universities in the U.S., receiving $12,237,421. for a period of four and a half years. The Kinesis Foundation has directly impacted over 15,000 students and their families from Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. A graduate of Notre Dame, Mr. Fernandez, together with his Foundation, has awarded over 1,600 scholarships to bring more students from Puerto Rico to his alma mater. This was decidedly a most inspiring program. |
