Was sent to Director Carmen Hammel from C.A.S.A. the Centro de San Agustino for San Juan Rotary's donation of a generator for the benefit of the children after Hurricane Maria's devastation.
Our guest speaker, Architect Ricardo Alvarez-Diaz, is the founder of a leading architectural & interior designing firm in San Juan and Miami. He is a prolific author and thinker and has been published in a variety of sources including Architectural Digest, Retail Middle East, Bloomberg, Ocean Drive, Fox News, CNN, among others. Our speaker began his presentation with a video showing the immense damage to structures and terrain caused by Hurricane Maria last September 20. The social and economic distress is still with us. He strongly believes that government should set the rules and that this is the best time to rebuild and transform Puerto Rico. Three important factors are in our favor: (1) We are a jurisdiction of the United States with US dollars and citizenship (2) Federal taxes do not apply (3) Goods produced here are marked "made in the USA." Obviously, a strong commitment to improving our infrastructure must be of high priority. Mr. Alvarez received his Architectural degree from Notre Dame University and serves on many major council boards as well as teaching at Inter-American U and UPR. Married to Cristina Villalon, Interior Designer & business partner, he has three daughters and is a rock-jazz drummer in his spare time. Thanks again to Speaker Chair, Warwick Butler, for bringing us this timely program.
