Dear fellow Rotarians,   

  Our next meeting will be presential at AFDA and it will be our annual meeting to elect next year's Board. You will be able to discuss, with present and future members of our Board, important issues relating to our Club’s plans. 

THE ANNUAL THANKSGIVING EVENT WITH THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS will be held this year on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 24. The Boys and Girls Club in Bayamon will be the center of the event and this year we want “all island” Boys & Girls Clubs to participate. We are celebrating 34 years of our participation in this event.  

We really need and welcome your donations to be able to sponsor this event. You can call the Rotary office at 787-342-6179 or send your message to:  rotaryclubofsanjuan@gmail.com. You may also call me or send me a message. The Boys and Girls youngsters will thank you for your help.

Our guest speaker, GERARDO A. CARLO ALTIERI, holds a J.D. UPR; LL.M Boston University; & a PhD. University of Seville. He has served as Judge President of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico; Judge of the court appellation of bankruptcy (Bankruptcy Panel) for the first Circuit of appeals of the United States and Legal adviser to the Governor of Puerto Rico.
Gerardo Carlo is currently academic VP and member of the Iberoamerican Institute of Bankruptcy Law, the International Insolvency Institute, and the World Bank Insolvency Task Force.
Our speaker's very timely topic was, "The Status of Puerto Rico's Bankruptcy and the Recent Events in the Legislature and in the Federal Court."  The takeaway from his talk was that more negotiations are needed to come to terms with the overriding pensions problem that puts politics and economics hand in hand. The situation could be called a recapitalization not a liquidation nor a bankruptcy. As Judge Carlo quoted, "It's not over 'till it's over,” Kudos to President Antonio Colorado for inviting the Judge.
