San Juan Rotary President, Antonio J. Colorado, spoke on “Economic Development and Puerto Rico". Born in New York, Tito got his first degree in Management Engineering from Boston U, His law degree from UPR Law School and his Master's in Law from Harvard Law School. With these credentials, he has held numerous Government positions in Puerto Rico, for more than 25 years, including Tax Advisor to the Economic Development Administration (Fomento), one of the first legislations of its type in the world, our speaker has served and still serves on multiple advisory educational, economic, and service organizations. In 1990 he was Secretary of State and in 1992, Resident Commissioner to Washington.
President Colorado's focus was on what is required to attract investment. Showing that we can help investors with giving them benefits is certainly a paramount goal. In the 50's, we were called "The Showcase of the Caribbean". Quite an honor! The approval of Section 936 from Congress under Governor Hernandez Colon is another shining example. Thousands of jobs were created on the island. He feels we need a more positive reaction from our people and our leaders. From the reaction of the virtual audience, one would have to agree.
