NEXT WEEK: On August 10, San Juan Rotary will be at the AFDA Club to hold a SOCIAL MEETING. There will be an update on activities pertinent to our Club. Come and join your fellow-Rotarians at this "in person" get together.
First, I must congratulate our member and Good friend Jorge Gonzalez for his presentation last week on his participation as mediator in very important issues relating to our Rotary district.
This next Tuesday our meeting will be a social open one where we will be informally discussing some important matters relating to our club. Among these we will include membership, participation, future activities, and fundraising ideas.
Please remember that my phone is 787-649-9426 and my email is ajcolorado@msn.com. I will be very grateful for any ideas or comments you may have.
I ask of you to be very careful with keeping your distance and wearing your masks, when necessary. Covid cases continue to increase. We want you healthy.
A CONTRIBUTION OF $2,710.66, to cover the cost of a commercial sized refrigerator for the Community Center in Las Marias, PR, was presented to Co-founder and Co-Director OWEN INGLEY, of Plenitud PR, a non-profit organization based in Las Marias. The Center Serves 1000 meals monthly to the underprivileged. The funding for the refrigerator was made possible with donations from Rotary District 6970 in Florida and your Club. Club Director, Georganna Hildebrand introduced Mr. Ingley, who was a guest speaker at our club a few weeks ago.
San Juan Rotary Past President, Attorney Jorge González, was a facilitator for conflict resolution at our District 7000 level.
There were many opinions expressed on various topics which clearly indicated serious differences. Resolved issues under parliamentary rules was the solution. A major issue was the future of the $52,000 raised, beginning 22 years ago, for a Rotary Monument designated by Past District Governors in order to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Puerto Rico. The monument was never built. After much discussion and mediation, the future control of the funds will be transferred to a new bank account. Jorge was happy to note that the meeting was held with Rotary's historic approach to problem solving in a congenial atmosphere.
