President José M. (Pepito) Rivero-Olmedo-Message
For over 30 years the Rotary Club of San Juan have had the privilege of being part of the Thanksgiving dinner offered to kids between the ages of 6 to 18 years.  This year we had 420 participants during the luncheon offered at La Concha Hotel in San Juan, PR.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico and our Club joint efforts to continue this tradition.  Our most sincere appreciation to FR Edwin Aquino, who always put his heart to make of the occasion a very special one.  We were honored with the participation of the group Teatro por Amor under the direction of Antonio Morales. They offered a quality show to all the participants.  We have the special participation of Brigitte Dávila who put her soul in every song.  Every kid enjoyed this special moment and they look forward to next year celebration.  We appreciate the opportunity to serve given to us by the Boys & Girls Club of PR and its President, Olga Ramos Carrasquillo, Esq.  When we join efforts to serve the satisfaction is greater.  To ALL the members of our Club who offered their helping hands, we say THANK YOU for always been prepared to serve and help; continue with your enthusiasm to serve our community.  To FR Roxana M. López, from Puerto Rico & Las Américas Rotary e-Club, we also extend our thanks and recognition for her unconditional help.

Be sure to mark your calendars and invite spouses and friends to our HOLIDAY LUNCHEON on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 18, in the AFDA Club.
Guest speaker, Senator Eduardo Bhatia, as a distinguished alumnus, gave an overview of his Commencement Address at Princeton University's June 3rd graduation.  A veteran of 20 years of pubic service, our speaker's theme centered on the erosion of morality and ethics in our, and the world's, elected leaders.  The truth has been pushed aside and a culture of nationalism and authoritarianism is on the rise.  As an example, turning to our local scene, the borrowing of $22 billion in the years 2001-2016, just to run the government's payroll, is responsible for 1/3 of our debt.  Senator Bahia fielded questions from the audience. Thanks go to Speaker Chairman, Sherman Wildman, for bringing us one of our most favorite and most requested speakers.
