Guest speaker, Senator Eduardo Bhatia, as a distinguished alumnus, gave an overview of his Commencement Address at Princeton University's June 3rd graduation. A veteran of 20 years of pubic service, our speaker's theme centered on the erosion of morality and ethics in our, and the world's, elected leaders. The truth has been pushed aside and a culture of nationalism and authoritarianism is on the rise. As an example, turning to our local scene, the borrowing of $22 billion in the years 2001-2016, just to run the government's payroll, is responsible for 1/3 of our debt. Senator Bahia fielded questions from the audience. Thanks go to Speaker Chairman, Sherman Wildman, for bringing us one of our most favorite and most requested speakers. |
