One hundred years ago a cease fire was declared to call and end to World War I. Church bells around the world rang in celebration at the arrival of peace after four long years. As the county remembers the armistice declared on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 – a day that became the foundation of Veterans Day – we pause to reflect, remember and pay tribute to all those who have served our country. JULIO SOTO CUBANO, President of Pisadas de Amor, an organization that provides aid to victims of Hurricane Maria, accepted a check for $11,400 to cover the cost of repairs to six badly damaged homes in Manati. The funds for the recovery assistance were made possible by the many generous contributions your Club received from numerous Rotary Clubs throughout the United States.
Guest speakers, Sonia Cosme and Margarita Espinosa, representing the organization "Puerto Rico Humanitarian Aid Program for Venezuela" founded to collect and send medical and hospital supplies to distressed Venezuela spoke of the political crisis there and the shortage of medicines and terrible hospital situations that have caused the death of thousands" of people, especially seniors.
