NEXT WEEK:Maria de los Angeles Rivera, San Juan Rotary's incoming President for 2022-2023, will hold a Business Meeting in AFDA, on Tuesday, May 3. We had a very nice turnout last week and enjoyed a tasty lasagna lunch.
Last Tuesday we had as our guest speaker Mr. Maximiano Valdez, Director of our Symphonic Orchestra. He is also in charge of the Casals Festival. It is very important that we endorse our orchestra and the Casals Festival by attending their performances. This year’s program starts on the 21th of May and ends on the 4th of June.
Do not forget, our 7000 District Conference is set for Saturday 25th. of June of this year. The cost per person is $150.00. It includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and two coffee breaks. The San Juan Club is the host club. We need as many of you as possible, please join us, you will really enjoy it.

The early literacy program that introduces children to the symbols and sounds of printed language and one of San Juan Rotary projects, was represented today by Brenda Erickson of the Peachtree, Georgia Rotary Club and Laura Pagan, our island's SOUNS leader. SOUNS has been highly successful in teaching children to read. If you would like to learn more about this program, please call Laura Pagan at (787)209-8645.
San Juan Rotary welcomed Chilean Conductor Maximiano Valdes, Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Puerto Rico Symphony, and the famed Festival Casals of Puerto Rico. Mr. Valdes recently ended a 16-year tenure as Music Director of the Asturias, Spain Symphonic Orchestra and was named that orchestra's Conductor Laureate.
Internationally acclaimed for his work as a guest conductor, Maestro Valdes has been invited to work with the world's finest orchestras.
The Casals Festival this year will be celebrated from May 21-22, May 28-29, and June 2-4. It is a fabulous program featuring the world's greatest composers, soloists, and vocalists, from around the globe. Conductor Valdes noted that the Festival is in dire need of audience support to keep it financially sound. He asked Rotarians to help spread the word to get the attendance back on its economic footing as it so richly deserves, with the talent it presents.
