The 2019 Rotary Youth Leadership Conference (RYLA) will be held on February 16-18, 2019 in Barranquitas, PR at the “Centro Leonismo Puertorriqueño”.  Our Club is sponsoring this important leadership training program for young people.
RYLA is an intensive leadership experience where students develop their skills as leaders while having fun and making connections.  Students must be between their Junior and Senior year in high school to attend.  The schedule includes various speakers, career seminars, a challenge course, team building activities and much more.
What are the benefits of this training?
Students will connect with leaders in their communities and around the world to:
  • Build communication and problem-solving skills
  • Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader
  • Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
  • Unlock their potential to turn motivation into action
  • Have fun and form lasting friendships

Has been approved for membership in the Rotary Club of San Juan:  NEFTALI BERNARD, President of Insight Communications Corp. sponsored by Jose Irizarry.  Any objections should be directed to the Secretary by January 30.  The final decision rests with the Board of Directors.

Guest speaker, Arnaldo Claudio, Technical Compliance Advisor Puerto Rico Police Reform (Police Monitor) a retired Army Colonel and native of Santurce, has held a myriad of assignments in DC, Puerto Rico, Peru, El Salvador, Bolivia, Iraq, Cuba and all points south.  Some of his most prominent assignments include Chief Security Operations for Pope John Paul II, Special Forces Police Advisor for Presidential Hostage Rescue Forces, Colombian Armed Forces, among others.  We learned that Puerto Rico, with 35,000 police officers, is second in size to the New York City police force. With some 5,000 + leaving the force here, Mr. Claudio's task is to modernize and make sweeping civil rights reforms under the agreement for sustainable reform of the Puerto Rico Police Department.  Our speaker emphasized that our island is not a narco state, but we do have a drug war with a multitude of entry points, Carolina. and Fajardo predominant.
