September 11, 2001 was one of the saddest days in history when over 2,977 souls were killed by troubled minds who performed the terrible attack.People who died in this abominable terrorist attack came from at least 83 countries; human beings like us.It seems that 9/11 was just yesterday; it is still fresh in our minds and it is sad when human beings realize this kind of unforgivable acts.
On this September 11, seventeen years after the tragedy, we should remember the victims with prayers. In Rotary we should keep our focus in educating communities to reach PEACE and UNDERSTANDING.
Inducted into San Juan Rotary was RICK WEINLAND (Education: Private School). He is the Head of School of Commonwealth-Parkville School. Sponsor: Jose (Pepito) Rivero-Olmedo.
DR. JOSEPH RYAN SMOLARZ, specialist in Ear, Nose & Throat Medicine, gave a detailed talk on the topic, "Mold Problems After the Storm". We learned that mold, mildew and fungus are spread by spores and can produce toxics. They grow on wet surfaces within 48 to 72 hours and they attack our respiratory tract or through our skin. They show their presence in your home or office through visual signs and a strong odor It is important to clean the area (wearing a mask) with water and Clorox. Pregnant women, chemotherapy patients nd those of us over 65 are particularly vulnerable to mold's adverse effects. Most comment ailments are rhinitis (nasal congestion) and asthma. The members posed many questions to the doctor in the question and answer period Dr. Smolarz has his offices in St. Thomas, USVI, He has published myriad manuscripts and abstracts and given seminars on topics such as, hearing and balance, allergies, and other related subjects. His educational background includes degrees from Catholic University in Chile, the U of Granada, Spain, and the University of Texas Thanks to Speaker Chairman, Sherman, for bringing us this timely speaker.
