Dear Rotarians:
This week we had a packed program! First, the nominations committee presented the candidates for the 2022-23 Board of Directors positions that need to be filled:
- President Elect – Jorge González
- Vice President – Russ Patterson
- Secretary – Angelika Ilina
- Club Service - Pending
- Public Image – José (Pepito) Rivero
You can make additional nominations on our next meeting at AFDA on October 25, 2022. Elections are to be held on November 8, 2022.
Our own FR Georgie Hildebrand and FR Armand Piqué presented important information about the Rotary Foundation and our projects performed via Global and District Grants. We invite you to look around our communities and identify projects that we may take and make a difference!
We also had the visit of Eng. Lucy Crespo, CEO of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust, a non-profit organization created in 2004 to promote the participation and creation of jobs on the Island in the global knowledge economy by promoting investment and the financing of research and development of science and technology. The P.R. Science Trust has established three strategic verticals among which there are currently over 19 active programs. Public Health, Entrepreneurship, Research, and Development are the pillars of the scope of this non-profit organization. Lucy described to us the mission and programs of the “Fideicomiso” and explained how the project that we are supporting in Culebra for the mosquitoes’ control is developing and all the activities they are engaged in with the community in Culebra.

Things to remember:
- We are hopeful that by the end of the year, we will be able to finish the upgrade of our technical equipment, so we are able to have hybrid meetings. We are in the process of identifying the funds need to purchase the equipment. Again, we call on your generosity and if you are able to donate any amount to the club for this purpose, it is greatly appreciated.
- We have established an emergency fund in the club so all of you that are interested in helping can donate through our club. We are counting on your generosity in this time of need.
- We are looking for volunteers to work in the Youth Avenue. So please contact me if you are interested and:
- Do you have experience with any youth organization? Such as Boy Scouts or the likes.
- Did you receive youth services / youth protection training.
- Like us in Facebook and follow us in Twitter ( @RotaryJuan) and LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/san-juan-rotary-club/?viewAsMember=true)
- This year we are committed to increase our membership. We are asking every member to bring two guests to our meetings. Please think who you could bring and invite them!
The Board of Directors and I are counting with all your support and commitment to achieve our goals and take our club into the future. We are still looking for volunteers to join our five committees. Please let me know which one you would like to join. If you have any concerns or issues, please bring them to my attention along with your ideas and recommendations.
