FORMER SAN JUAN ROTARIAN, JESSICA LEIBEL, sent a $1,000 much appreciated donation to San Juan Rotary's Disaster Relief Fund. Jessica is now a resident of Issaquah, Washington State.
Timothy T. Lupfer, Retired Managing Director, Deloitte Consulting, spoke on the search for leadership. Leadership is the role of affecting followers to achieve the organizational goals, using authority and influence. Character tells us HOW; Capabilities=WHAT; and Direction=WHY. Character cannot exist on its own - it must rest on a foundation of Direction and Capabilities and is almost impossible to measure, difficult to observe and vital to achieve the discretionary effort of followers. To identify leadership roles, the program must start early in careers and distinguish between likeability (pleasing the boss) and leadership. There were many participants in the Q&A period. Our speaker, a Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (retired), was brought to the meeting by fellow-Rotarian, Lance Brilliantine.
