NEXT WEEK: Guest Speaker, Owen Ingley, Director of PLENITUD, PR, will inform us about the many Programs and Workshops the organization provides. We will be meeting on ZOOM next week.
This is my second week in office, and I want to get your opinion on issues having to do with the future of our San Juan Club. One important issue is how do you feel about virtual vs. presential club meetings. I would like to get your feedback.
It is also very important to know your ideas about what issues should we discuss at our weekly meetings.
I will try to contact as many members as I can but please feel free to call me, send me a message or an email with your comments. My phone is 787-649-9426 and my email is ajcolorado@msn.com.
Our next meeting will be virtual (ZOOM), and our Speaker will beOwen Ingley. See you Tuesday.
Major General Jose J. Reyes, The Adjutant General of Puerto Rico, is the advisor to the Governor of Puerto Rico on all military matters. Reyes commands the Puerto Rico National Guard, which is composed of Land, Air and State Guard elements, consisting of more than 8,000 Citizen-Soldiers, Airmen, and civilian personnel. He was the primary government spokesperson during the early stages of the COVID-19 emergency in 2020. His overseas duties include Operation New Dawn 2010-2011, in Baghdad Iraq. Interesting to know that he received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at UPR and was the recipient of the General Gorge C. Marshal Award bestowed to the nation's top 100 cadets in 1989.
General Reyes gave a plethora of information of the many health issues the Guard does jointly with the Dept. of Health. All 78 of our Municipalities were covered for vaccinations plus the churches, after services on Sunday. The Guard's work with keeping kids in school has proven most successful, with 98% going on to college or technical schools. One of his roles is to integrate the Federal, State and Civic Missions. Not to be overlooked was their work after Hurricane Maria, when 42,000 homes were destroyed or damaged. Many thanks to fellow-Rotarian, Sherman Wildman, for bringing us this most interesting speaker.
