San Juan Rotary sent a donation of $5,500, .through the Rotary Disaster Relief Fund, to the Bahamas, thanks to the generosity of our members who responded immediately to help alleviate the  destruction and suffering caused by Hurricane Dorian.

"School by School; A new Puerto Rico" as her topic, Ana Maria Garcia Blanco, Director of Instituto Nueva Escuela, spoke on the right of children to receive an excellent education.  Her focus was on the Montessori method, a scientifically proven pedagogy, based  on the profound respect for children and their potential.  .An outstanding example of success is the Juan Domingo Public School, a school that went from failing to a model school.  The Instituto Nueva Escuela is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2005.  It accomplishes its mission by training and certifying teachers, organizing and building the capacity of school leaders, community organizing and establishing strong family programs.  

                     A graduate of Harvard University, from undergraduate through her Doctorate in Education, (and in the first class that accepted women) Dr. Garcia Blanco's enthusiasm captivated the audience and energized a strong Q&A session.
