President Frank Earle Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Membership continues to be a critical factor for our club. Ray and Karol worked hard to present a wonderful open house and we had a good reception with many guests joining us for that meeting. As a result of the open house and the work of some Rotarians we have four new members; however, we are still below the 84 members that we had at the end of the previous Rotary year and well below my goal of 88 members by the end of this Rotary Year. We continue to lose members that move to the US mainland and/or are not comfortable using ZOOM.
Recruiting possible candidates cannot just be the job of a handful of us that get together on ZOOM with our Membership Chair, Gerry Cumpiano every two weeks to plan the membership program. In reality, it is the responsibility of all our members. We must pull together to right this problem in spite of the difficulties this year has brought. I realize that all our members will not be able to bring a friend or family member to join the club, but I am asking everybody to make their best effort to do so.
Thank you,
Frank

Introduced by Sherman Wildman, Guest Speaker SALVADOR HASBUN, President of El Vocero, told of how his newspaper went from bankruptcy to the Number One market leader in Puerto Rico.  His talk entitled, "Pay Attention to the Winds of Change", detailed how the exchange of information has become social media, movie theaters to Netflix, Airbnb vs. hotels, to name just a few.  In short, everything is changing.  His question was, "Are you prepared to change"?  Our speaker began his career in the Dominican Republic as a disc jockey, moved on to print media becoming the General Manager of The San Juan Star, and in 2013 taking over El Vocero, where he also published the English Weekly Journal.  With the retreating threat of the Covid virus, it will be interesting to see how much of the "new normal" will remain our everyday experience.
