President Kenneth McGrath Message
We are working tirelessly on the final preparations for our 100th Anniversary Gala in August.  Please remember to buy tickets for your family members and friends to this great event.
With the Rotary year nearly over, I would like to thank all the members of our club for their participation and involvement in the club's activities and projects.  We have accomplished a lot this year and have helped hundreds of families and communities with our relief efforts.  There is still more work to be done this coming year under the leadership of President Pepito.  We have laid the groundwork for future projects that will help rebuild our island and support the neediest of communities.  I know that he can count on our full support.  Finally, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to lead this great organization this year.  It has been a pleasure working with such a dedicated group of individuals.

Ken

LAST WEEK

President Ken McGrath gave his end-of-year presentation thanking his Club Directors: Pepito Rivero, Telin Fernandez, Carmen Hammel, Luis Ramirez, Jennifer Bates, Gerry Cumpiano, Enrique Sigas, Edwin Aquino, Bob Bolte & Alan Austin.  When Ken took over the helm in July, he thought his focus would be on the 100th Anniversary celebration of our rich heritage.  Then, along came Hurricane Maria which left most of the island without water and electricity for months (and still some areas without electricity).  The response from Rotary clubs around the world has been overwhelming as we have received over 200 offers of support which have donated goods and services worth $750,000. A former San Juan Rotarian pledged $1 million to fund global grants.  Countless Rotary groups have come to Puerto Rico to lend a hand to the recovery effort.  With funds sent to us by the many Rotary clubs, we have provided fresh water and filters, a cistern to a school that serves special needs children, over 400 solar lights and chargers, new roofs, doors and windows in Vieques, and over 200 mattresses to a community in Loiza.  Our Hurricane Relief Committee is still up and running.  Now, we must concentrate quality time on having a successful 100th Anniversary Gala on August 4 when Rotary International President Barry Rassin and his wife, Esther, join us in the celebration.
