The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 29 thru ZOOM
San Juan Rotary and the St. Simons Island, Georgia Rotary Club will hold a joint exchange meeting on Zoom. Nicknamed "The Golden Isles" because the islands along the coast of Georgia are situated in a vast salt water marsh and the marsh grass turns a beautiful golden color once a year (like wheat fields in the US Midwest. The program will be given by a noted historian. In exchange, on October 13, San Juan Rotary will host a joint meeting with St. Simons Island Club. This is a great initiative and we are all looking forward to it.
INVOCATION: That will be done by the St. Simons Island Club
For the las two weeks, we have initiated our meeting by reading the Four Way Test. I believe that it is a wonderful idea to start especially since we have quite a few guests and it is a way of presenting our values as Rotarians.
However, the reading in unison has been a little disjointed and that has detracted from the impact of the message.
In the future, I will try asking you to repeat each test after me to see if that remedies the situation.
Once we have tried it this way, if it works great, but if you do not think that it does, let me know and we will return to reading in unison.
Guest speaker, Zorimar Betancourt, Founder and Executive Director of Fundación Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt, gave a heartwarming narrative of how the tragic loss of her 17 year old son to a violent criminal act, and the subsequent knowledge of how a year before he had donated his organs in the event of his death that saved the lives of five persons, turned her despair into positive action by organizing fund raising activities for people with chronic medical conditions who needed treatment here and in the states. Hurricane Maria revealed to her the amount of people in the mountainous areas of our island that were disconnected from the rest of the island. The Foundation took hot food, other necessities and concern and love to those in extreme need. Zorimar continues her unconditional volunteerism with her dedication to the Foundation.
