President Frank Earle Message
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Hopefully by now all our members have received my e-mail regarding DG Mercedes initiative to inoculate against COVID 19 all Rotarians from District 7000 who wish to participate.
Many members of our club have already replied, and Pat has forwarded your replies to our DG who will be compiling a census. She hopes to have the census ready by this coming Monday to start planning for the initiative with VOCES, the non-profit which will administer the project.
On another positive note, District 5280 of Los Angeles has chosen our District 7000 for their yearly giving program 2020/2021.
They are prepared to fully sponsor approximately 14 service projects from our District both with their own funds and their funds combined with Global Grants.
It is important that our District forward a short description of our projects as soon as possible.
The projects can range from large, to medium to small. If you have a project in mind that you think is worthy of consideration, please contact Georgie who will be coordinating this effort for the district (georganna57@gmail.com).
Thank you,

Frank

Guest Speaker, EDGARDO MALDONADO, Executive Director of SBP Puerto Rico, gave a fact-filled talk on how the organization shrinks time between disaster and recovery through five interventions: Rebuilding efficiently; Sharing their model with other organizations; Preparing home and business owners through resilience and training; Advising municipal and state officials; and Advocating for policy changes and improvements to the disaster.  Hurricane Maria created thousands of displaced and suffering people.  SBP has brought 135 families back home, to date.  It has trained 120 organizations in disaster recovery's best practices with 1,500+ volunteers serving, resulting in $350,000 saved in labor costs.  Eleven municipalities received help.  Success through collaboration with such entities as Toyota, Walmart, Farmers Insurance and many more, aided in rebuilding.
San Juan Rotary was proud to be part of the effort to have a positive effect on the destructive aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
Thanks go to fellow-Rotarian, JAMES KENNEDY, who arranged for Tuesday's program.
