The Thanksgiving dinner for underprivileged boys and girls has been the club’s signature event for over thirty years. This year, due to the Pandemic, it is not possible to provide the traditional get together in a beautiful hotel setting.
As an alternative the Boys and Girls Club has made a wonderful proposal to provide a dinner in a virtual setting: They propose to deliver all the ingredients of a traditional Thanksgiving meal to 400 families. As part of their proposal, their chefs will prepare the meals that will be delivered in a box with easy to follow instructions for the preparation.
Each box of ingredients will feed a family of four.
Vice President, JAMES KENNEDY-PHF, recognized the following Rotarians whose Recognition Level increased their Paul Harris Fund: HECTOR GAITAN-PHF+2; GERALD CUMPIANO-PHF+1; FRANKLIN EARLE-PHF+7. Congratulations to all three!
San Juan Rotary hosted the second Joint Exchange Meeting with the St. Simons Island Rotary Club in Georgia. After a Club Business and Introductory session, PRESIDENT FRANK EARLE, turned the program over to JUANITA MORRIS, ANTONIO COLORADO & JORGE GONZALEZ, who presented the history of Puerto Rico and the community activities of San Juan Rotary. The devastation caused by Hurricane Maria and the worldwide aid response (including St. Simons Island RC) was a confirmation of Rotary International's theme of Service Above Self. Needless to say, our Island's history, beginning with Columbus' second voyage to the New World, it's settlement by the Spanish and subsequent becoming a possession of the US due to the Spanish-American War, made for a fact-filled and colorful program.
