I want to thank our Treasurer Luis Ramirez and the Finance Team for preparing this year’s budget which was approved by the Board this week. The task was more difficult due to the unusual circumstances this year, but they were up to the challenge. It looks like we will have a small income that is always good news. Michelle Crespo, our Membership Chair is also working with some wonderful ideas for attracting new members and José M. (Pepito) Rivero showed gave us a wonderful tour of our very own web page at our Board meeting this week. My thanks to them and all the Board members for their tireless work and dedication.
Attorney Jose R. Gonzalez Irizarry with the McConnell Valdez law firm, gave a detailed presentation on the legality of the difference in Social Security benefits to Puerto Rico residents as compared to the US, and the status of the lawsuits on this subject in Federal Court. The many differences in income, available work and poverty level were pointed out and created a substantial amount of controversy. Thanks to Rotarian Jorge Gonzalez for bringing us this most interesting speaker.
