The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 21 thru ZOOM
SPEAKER: Salvador Coleman Tio, Coordinator of Agroecology of Para La Naturaleza, will be our guest speaker on Zoom. The Rotary Club of San Juan has written a Global Grant with Para La Naturaleza for $289,000 which supports a new generation of regenerative farmers with the aim of transforming Puerto Rico's broken farm system. Salvador Coleman Tio manages and is responsible for the execution of the project.
“Our most important goal for the year is to grow membership.
We have several ideas but one that was submitted to the Board, to present to our members, is to have alternate meetings at 12:15PM one week and the next at week at 6:00PM. This is thought to be attractive to younger members and possible new members that cannot take time off during the day.
It is less complicated to organize using ZOOM but needs more coordination if we resume meetings in person at the AFDA club.
There were also two other ideas suggested during the discussion:
Younger members and new recruits who prefer evenings and have other interests form a satellite club affiliated with The San Juan Rotary Club.
Continue with our luncheon meetings as they are but during months that have 5 Tuesdays (apparently there are three ) organize a more social evening event for the 5th Tuesday of the month.
The board discussed the suggestions without reaching a consensus.
We need feedback from our membership with your opinion and input. Send a short email to Pat to let us what you think. ( rotaryclubofsanjuan@gmail.com)
We are looking for volunteers to help identify areas that need covid/masks and food. And also volunteers to help distribute these. The masks are not for individuals, they are for institutions. The food is for needy families. There is a very short lead time for this to occur so if you can help please contact Gerry Cumpiano @ Gcumpiano@gmail.com or call him.
Our speakers were San Juan Rotarians, Dr. Norman Maldonado and Attorney Jorge Gonzalez who spoke on the Pros and Cons, respectively, of the new plebiscite law to be held with the general election to be held on November 3, The following printouts contain some of the spirited contents of the discussion of this ever popular and controversial topic - the destiny of our island. And, who better to rally to the platform than two Past Presidents of San Juan Rotary.
