We will have a short recess until January 12, 2021.
We have wonderful speakers lined up for January and will give you more details as the dates approach.
In the meantime, I am excited by the arrival of the Pfizer COVID vaccine.
I encourage all our members to vaccinate as soon as your group is announced in order to finally return to normal with our wonderful in person lunch meetings.
When that happens, we will, of course, work with the necessary technical procedure to also invite guests who cannot join us in person to join us through Zoom.
I am really looking forward to hugs, hand-shakes and the famous comradery that makes our club so special.
I wish everyone a very happy and healthy Christmas. May peace rein in all our lives.
Guest Speaker, REAR ADMIRAL PETER J. BROWN, Special Representative for Puerto Rico, Executive Office of the President, is the coordinator for the United States Government's efforts to rebuild the infrastructure and resiliency of Puerto Rico, from the effects of Hurricane Maria. As Special Representative, he is responsible for coordinating over a dozen departments and agencies, thousands of federal employees, and billions of taxpayer dollars. A graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, he earned his law degree from the U of Connecticut and worked with the Coast Guard's Research and Development Center in the testing of emerging drug detection technologies, paving the way for the deployment of enhanced analytical chemical instruments at sea for law enforcement.
Admiral Brown spoke to us on the phone on his way to an appointment in Washington, DC where he was scheduled to bring the incoming administration's transition team up to date on the work and plans and problems for our island's recovery. Stationed in DC, he will be in Puerto Rico in, a few weeks. One purpose is to follow up on the collapse of the Arecibo telescope, a national resource.
Introduced by Sherman Wildman, Admiral Brown had answers to the questions posed by our members. Thanks go to Club Administrator, Director Carmen Hammel, for an interesting and informative program.
