It is very important that you follow up with any guest that you invited to our Open House last week and give them a gentle reminder of all the pluses of becoming a member of The Rotary Club of San Juan.
We are really interested in having women and men who share our values join us for both the camaraderie and networking and the chance to serve.
Also, I hope you read the message that Pepito shared with the wonderful news that we will have our first In Person meeting of well over a year on May 25 at 12:30PM at the AFDA Club. This first meeting will require you to make a reservation with Pat (rotaryclubofsanjuan@gmail.com) and since we will be limited to 25, any person who reserves and does not cancel before the Thursday before May 25 will be charged to their account for the lunch whether they attend or not.
This should be a great opportunity to catch up with old friends.
This first In Person meeting will not be available on ZOOM; however, in the future, we will try to provide hybrid meetings. (Much like this year’s Oscars but not as boring.)
Club Past President, Attorney Jorge Gonzalez, gave a lot of good advice on his topic of "A Dialogue on Successful Aging." We can delay, improve, and even avoid "old age" by living in accordance with our personal values in order to feel self-fulfilled and at peace with ourselves which constitutes, in our speaker's view, happiness, and therefore, successful aging.
From the responses of members, what constitutes when aging begins is a personal choice. Examples of successful aging included Pablo Casals, performing, and composing at 91, Justice Ruth Ginsburg, vibrant to the end, and two of our fellow Rotarians, Chuck Hitt, an avid tennis player, and Attorney Jack Malley, both active into their 90's.
There is no doubt that strong, healthy relations with family and friends contribute to successful living. Adequate sleep and managed stress are two important factors. And as is excepting every day as another gift. Not looking back - but ahead.
In concluding, we should age without fearing the subjective and ambiguous status of "old age" since old age is generally better than dying young. We can enjoy a 7 long life between 90 and 115 years of age. A very well received program, thanks to Jorge, a 1/2 Iron Man at age 77.
