Our speaker, NICOLE ROY, has served in a volunteer capacity with many charitable organizations. Hurricane Maria brought her to our island to help support relief efforts with The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services and now she is the Project Coordinator of the Long-Term Recovery Program. To date, over 24,000 families have been helped to recover from the damage caused by the 2017 monster storm. Nicole's personal story was very moving as she was orphaned at 15 and went into foster care. This gave her a lifelong interest in helping others. Rotarians were amazed at the scope of the work of The Salvation Army, including providing loans to prevent bankruptcy among local businesses and finding time to focus on special needs and unique areas of the island. Kudos to Director Warwick Butler who arranged for this program. |
