In preparation for our gala celebration in August we will be taking a group picture of the club members at 12:15 pm before our lunch on June 19. We will also take pictures of the board. Please try to attend that lunch in order to appear in our 100th Anniversary celebration publication. Remember to tell your friends and past members about our gala, and to buy tickets for your spouse/escort/friend. We are less than 2 months away from that celebration activity and will need to confirm attendance with the Sheraton Hotel in early July.
Please enter the website (www.sanjuanrotary.org) to buy additional tickets or contact Pepito for assistance or any questions that you might have.,

CHRISTA von HILLEBRANDT, Manager of US NWS Caribbean Warning Program, spoke on some lessons about tsunamis & earthquakes. Our speaker began her talk reminding us of the Earthquake/Tsunami that devested the northwestern shore of Puerto Rico almost 100 years ago (October 10, 1918).. Unlike hurricanes that give time to take shelter, earthquakes do not give advance warnings. They can happen 365 days a year. One should be prepared with 10-30 days of necessities. There are some Evacuation Maps available for tsunamis generated by local earthquakes, under the worst case scenario. Ask at the Reception Desk. Hurricanes Irma and Maria showcased our vulnerability to natural disasters and the hazards of informal construction that does not comply with building codes. The two storms also showed our strengths: compassion and community caring. Speaker Christa (who is the daughter of fellow-Rotarian, Fred von Hillebrandt), said a good rule to remember is "Build Back Better."
